Artist's Comments

This was the bane of my existence over Christmas break. Maybe "bane" isn't exactly the right word because I actually enjoyed this.

This is one of our Studio Art IV assignments. We had to choose a board game (I chose Monopoly) and choose an artist whose style we had to imitate somehow (I chose Sandy Skoglund), then include them both in a surreal piece. You've probably seen her famous installation art piece, Revenge of the Goldfish, before. I've always loved her style, so I chose to use the "floating objects" theme, as well as the asymmetry and rather erratic nature of her True Fiction series.

Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do. I apologize for the picture - some of the cropping is weird. This also might not be finished. I still need to turn in it at school today! ;P

Time taken: A week
Materials: Prismacolor colored pencil and illustration board
Dimensions: 18" x 12"
References: Skyscraper picture from Google and this guy with a crazy moustache!.
Credit: Monopoly is (C) Parker Brothers. The image is (C) =SaxGirl1010.

The coloring is great, especially on the old man. That mustache is awesome XD

Great Work! :D

Awesome! :D This made me grin as soon as I saw it! The yellow irons and thimbles make it, too - the composition's great, with the bright yellow standing out like that! XD

I'm kinda jealous I don't take art classes any more. I used to love the mad assignment they gave us! Great work! :D

Few of us now have seen the stars as folk saw them then...but, from the village of Wall, the stars were laid out like worlds or like ideas, uncountable as trees in a forest or the leaves on a tree. - Stardust (Neil Gaiman)

HELLS YEAH. Fantastic! :D Seriously, everything about this is pretty much spot-on. ;D Really digging the yellow/orange gamepieces against all the purples and blues.
