I'm listening to Katatonia right now, actually. From what I've heard Sonata Arctica is similar. I'm trying to find some more alternative/metal bands that suit my tastes. I'll check them out!

Rock, Alternative, Metal, Pop... almost everything but rock is closest to my heart.

My favorite band has been for 10 years a Finnish girl band named Tiktak and their music really changed my music taste very much 'cause when they started their music was poprock and when they went further with their music it started to sound more like hard rock in the end. I'm sad that the band separated in 2007 but I'm still a big fan.
Other band that I adore is Three Days Grace and third is Paramore.

You must be lucky to be from Scandinavia... everywhere I turn on Last.fm there are Finnish/Norwegian/Swedish power metal bands!

Paramore/TDG are also favorites of mine. I'm just trying to expand some of my tastes when it comes to liking mainstream music. I'll check out Tiktak though. Do they sing in Finnish? I honestly don't care if I can understand words as long as it sounds cool.

Well I don't know lucky but I like to be a Finn.

Tiktak sings in Finnish, but their songs are pretty good.
Songs I recommend to listen from them are:
Sankaritar (Heroine) (I think this as my theme song *cough* )
Tänä yönä taivaaseen (Tonight to Heaven)
Heilutaan (Let's Swing)

They're very good songs and has some rock and pop mixed in them.

I must say I like all types of music, but when it comes down to it I've never NOT liked alternative. In fact, most of my collection is definitely alternative or punk, or indie.
